How do you know if that piece of equipment (also known as AT) is necessary and reasonable and if you can purchase it without a full review. There are a number of resources that can help you look at this.
1) The NDIS self-management guide has a set of questions that can be used by all participants to assit you to understand if it is a reasonable and necessary piece of equipment or support.
If you can answer Yes to each question then it is a good chance that you can access it. If you answered yes to all the questions but the support budget question then it is time to talk to the professionals around you and get some recommendations and even an AT assessment so that when your next review happens you are prepared.
If the support is required now due to your circumstances changing you can get the reports and then submit a change of circumstances form which will hopefully trigger a review.
2) The NDIS has a classification guide for AT - this guide can help you to understand if you can purchase items with or without reports. Do a search for this document on the NDIS website "NDIS AT Complexity Level Classification document". It can be found in the provider section under - Essentials for providers working with the NDIA - Providing assistive technologies and home modifications
If you would like more information or assistance to understand AT and supports please get in touch.
