Service Agreements - the one thing everyone needs to understand

NDIS service agreements are not a waste of time - they are a contract for service and protect the Provider and the Participant. I recommend that everyone has a service agreement with only a few exceptions. A service agreement provides the information and explination about how the provider and participant will work together and once made is a contract.

Participants MUST understand the service agreement before signing and it is the responsibility of the service provider to ensure this/make allowances.

Agency Managed - You must have a service agreement - this is how the provider will be paid as they need a service agreement to claim for services through the Portal.

Plan Managed - Highly recommended for 99% of services used. Be aware that a service agreement is your protection. Service agreements may not be needed for one off purchases.

Self Managed - Highly Recommended for regular services. If not using a service agreement (You can draw your own up) ensure you understand what and how the service will be provided.

DSC has a great article about what can and can not be included in service agreements. It is aimed at service providers but has heaps of information for those wanting to understand service agreements better.
